Press Shortlisted in British Council ELTons Awards

Cambridge University Press title Interaction Online and mobile app Wordablein partnership with Playlingo, have been selected as finalists in the 16th British Council ELTons awards.

The ELTons are the only international awards that recognise and celebrate innovation in English Language teaching (ELT).

Interaction Online, one of the newest additions to the best-selling Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers series, was shortlisted in the Innovation in teacher resources category, after competing in a field of 110 international submissions. The category entries were judged against the criteria of innovation and practical functionality.

The Handbook supports online interaction between humans, as distinct from human-to-machine interaction. Research suggests that student-to-student interaction is not only motivating and engaging, but actually essential for learning to take place. It outlines the rationale and principles of online interaction, and the implications for teaching and learning. Watch the authors of Interaction Online, Lindsay Clandfield and Jill Hadfield, talk about online interaction and on how teachers can best use online interaction for English language learning.

Wordable, a new mobile vocabulary learning game developed by Playlingo in partnership with the Press, was shortlisted in the Innovation in learner resources category. For many learners, vocabulary learning is a grind. There are thousands of words and it’s easy to forget words as you learn new ones. Wordable is a designed to tackle this motivation problem in a fun quiz-style game where learners compete with friends to see who is the fastest to learn new English words. Wordable combines social gaming’s motivational power with serious learning that blends Cambridge Dictionary content, word memorisation technology and research-proven ELT techniques. Wordable can be downloaded here.

Winners of the 16th British Council ELTons Awards for Innovation in English Language Teaching will be announced at the awards ceremony in central London, on Monday, 18 June 2018. Find out more here.
